This warm desert oasis is a beautiful city to visit in the fall and winter, while the rest of the country faces snow and cold temperatures. Phoenix also offers plenty of outdoor kid-friendly activities that you can do with your children.
The Desert Botanical Garden is a great way to explore the desert landscape up close. The 140-acre garden is situated in Papago Park, and offers adults and kids a great way to learn more about the different types of cacti and plants found in the desert.
A very family-friendly park in the middle of Scottsdale, this park is a perfect stop for kids who love all things trains. Whether you jump on the one mile train ride loop, or take a spin on their carousel, kids will be entertained for hours in the park.

The Phoenix area is surrounded by mountain ranges, with tons of hiking trails for all skill levels and ages. If you are looking for an easy trail that you can hike with your family, take a drive up north for the Pinnacle Peak trail. The McDowell Mountain range also offers a wide variety of trails, varying from shorter walking trails to harder hikes.
One of the areas of town where you’ll feel like you are back in the Old West, this vibrant area incorporates the Western history of the city into the restaurants and art galleries. Ride the trolley, or visit the Sugar Bowl, an old fashioned ice cream parlor, when your children are looking for a sweet treat.
On a hot summer day or when you are ready for some indoor fun, the Children's Museum is a great Phoenix attraction for families. This museum is best for kids under six years old, but everyone will enjoy their visit. All of the exhibits are interactive and designed for children's participation.

In the Arizona heat, there's no better place to be than in the water. Wet 'n Wild offers a wide selection of water slides and attractions to thrill all ages. The park is typically open from March through October, and then May through August. The best part? Definitely check out the Crazy Cactus roaring lazy river when you are ready for some relaxation in the sun.
Castles 'n Coasters
Castles N’ Coasters is a great destination for amusement park lovers of all ages! This 10-acre park features a mini golf course, rides, and an indoor video game arcade. Your kids will love the Bumper Boats ride, or enjoying a spin around on their “Magic Carpet” ride.
There are lots of festivals in Phoenix, with a wide variety of topics. Just to mention a few, there is the Salt River Spooktacular Hot Air Balloon Festival, the Phoenix Children's Festival which takes place on September 22nd and raises money for children's charities, all the way to Barktoberfest, a dog friendly festival that benefits an animal rescue program.
This fun spot in downtown Phoenix is great to visit when you are ready to learn with your kids about science in a fun and interactive way! Complete with exhibits on everything from minerals, bugs, and a Pompeii exhibit, this museum is a must for any science loving kids.
